VOLUNTEERS from Gosport and Fareham Friends of the Earth will be getting together on June 22 to create a wildflower haven for bees.

The 20m-square space at Titchfield Haven in Titchfield, will be transformed into a wildflower meadow of long-lasting and diverse flowers, providing food for threatened local pollinating insects.

Friends of the Earth is committed to creating 60 bee-friendly patches across the UK during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year in a campaign dubbed Bee Cause.

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage will lend a hand with the planting and pledge her support for the campaign to boost bee numbers.

She said: ‘The plight of our bees is a big concern. I’m delighted that Titchfield Haven has been selected as one of the Bee Worlds, providing a purpose-built habitat to reverse the decline.’
