TRADITIONAL fair games, bouncy castles and donkey rides made for a brilliant start to the summer holidays.

Each year the Hayling Island Community Centre holds a fun day to mark the start of the six-week break.

Hundreds of people from the island enjoyed yesterday’s party which was organised by staff at the centre, led by manager Tania Jones.

She said: ‘We first held a party three years ago to celebrate the community centre’s 30th anniversary.

‘It was so successful we decided to make it an annual event on the first Friday of the summer holidays.

‘It means the holidays get off to a great start with friends, families, children and the community altogether.

‘There’s always something for everybody.’

The attractions were spread across the field and inside the centre with no chance of anyone getting bored.

Outside there were bouncy castles, go-karts, a candy floss machine, hook-a-duck and inflatable games.

Inside there was a tea room to have a break and enjoy a coffee or a cold drink.

Tania added: ‘We had lots of traditional games.

‘Even though we’re a charity and we don’t do it just as a money-making venture.

‘We keep all the prices really low – just 25p a game. It’s about bringing everyone together.’

Michelle Buglass, 41, enjoyed the party with her three children.

She said: ‘With my friends and their children there were eight of us altogether and we had a fantastic time.

‘We came for the first time last year and it was brilliant. We would not miss it now.

‘The ladies here at the community centre do an absolutely brilliant job. We all had so much fun.’
