The Woodentots Parent Staff Association from HMS Collingwood’s nursery organised a Valentine-themed bake sale to raise cash for the project.

Staff and children asked parents to make a £1 donation in return for a treat.

The event showcased the baking talents of the children, offering cakes, fudge and delightfully-packaged heart-shaped cookies adorned with pink icing.

Chairwoman of Woodentots PSA Lieutenant Commander Caroline Thomas-Hoefsmit said: ‘We’ve been holding a few fundraisers to help raise money for projects around the nursery, one of which is to renovate the gardens that the children play in.

‘We’ve already held various bake sales and a raffle at Christmas, which went brilliantly.

‘We’re also holding events to encourage parents of the children who attend Woodentots to join in. We know that when partners are away serving it can be a very isolating time. We’re keen to get everyone involved and build a small community.’

Currently, the outdoor space includes wooden play trail equipment, a paved area for riding bicycles and scooters and a vegetable patch.

For the nursery, which has provided childcare since 1996 to accommodate the needs of all Collingwood personnel, the Valentine-themed sale has proved successful for the second year running.

In total £81 was raised on the day to contribute to the nursery’s continuous fundraising efforts.
