A HORSE had to be put down after falling on a farm and breaking its leg.

The animal was found on its side at Western Farm, in Weston Lane, by firefighters from nearby Pertesfield and Havant at 9am yesterday.

Working with animal rescue specialists they used a fork-lift truck to get the horse back on its feet despite extremely wet conditions.

But after it was discovered the animal, which was 18 years old, had broken its leg the owners were forced to call a vet and have it put down.
