A COSHAM youngster is taking tips from an international ballet dancer.

Louis Williamson has been receiving tips from Brenden Bratulic, one of the stars of English Youth Ballet.

The eight-year-old will perform with the English Youth Ballet in the Sleeping Beauty at the Kings Theatre, Portsmouth, playing the role of a Charm Dancer.

Louis said: ‘I can’t wait to get up on stage and show everybody what I can do.

‘I started dancing when I was two. It was my mum who asked me if I wanted to go as my sister went and my brother used to do it.

‘I became interested in dancing and I just wanted to get better and better.

‘Brenden’s nice to everyone. He helps us get a lot better. He is a very good dancer.’

Louis attends Court Lane Junior School and is training at Timestep Academy of Dance.

He was selected to perform with the English Youth Ballet, from an audition in November last year, where he is now being coached by Brenden.

Brenden is an Australian ballet dancer and will be appearing alongside Louis in the Sleeping Beauty production as the lead role of Prince Alexander.

Brenden said: ‘Louis has a lot of promise as a dancer. He is quite strong for his age. What is so good is how much he enjoys his dancing. He could go far.

‘The boys in the cast in Portsmouth are good to work with.

‘They are taking everything in that we are teaching them. We are having a great time together.

‘I think the boys are really enjoying working with loads of other boys in the cast as they are used to being one of the only boys in a class.

‘It’s good to pass on certain steps that they’ve never done before and to show them that there are boys on stage in ballet companies around the world.

‘I have been lucky to see so much of the world, to work and be on the stage with some of the most fantastic dancers in the world

‘There are many great jobs if you can make it and so many fantastic things to see.’

The cast of sleeping Beauty features 100 young, talented dancers from Hampshire, seven of which are being coached by Brenden.

English Youth Ballet is made up of 100 dancers, aged 8-18, from Hampshire and the surrounding area. They are one of the largest ballet companies in the UK.

Sleeping Beauty will be performed on March 6 and 7. To book a ticket contact (023) 9282 8282 or visit for more information.
