Jane's on marathon duty to help refugees

On Sunday, February 25, Jane Carr from St Paul’s RC Primary school will represent Portsmouth Joggers at the Malta Marathon, as part of the international Share the Journey campaign.

Jane’s proceeds from the event will go to international development charity CAFOD and its project that help refugees around the world.

She said: ‘I read about CAFOD’s role in the global campaign, Share the Journey, and wanted to help children who have had to flee their homes.

‘Half of the world’s refugees are children and thousands take flight without the protection of parents or other family members.

‘I work with young children and can’t imagine how scared and frightened they must be.

‘I’m aiming to contribute to the 24,900 miles – the distance around the world – by running 26 miles in support of the campaign.

‘It’s an act of solidarity to share the journey with children who are fleeing their homes on a daily basis.

‘Every step I take, together with others across the country, will send out an important message to world leaders.’

CAFOD Portsmouth representative, Jo Lewry, said: ‘We want to say a massive thank you to Jane. Through her run – and through the action of others across Portsmouth who have completed walks – she is showing local leaders that protecting refugees and migrants is important.

‘We want new global agreements that ensure refugees and migrants can live fairly and with dignity.’
