TWO OF the stars from the quintessentially British radio soap The Archers will open a Jubilee tea party.

Charles Collingwood, who plays Brian and Judy Bennett who plays Shula, will be guests of honour at Merchistoun Hall, Horndean, on Sunday.

The event begins at midday with a trip back in time to the 1950s with decorate tables which families can share with friends and family. Picnics are encouraged but Horndean firm Fat Frog will be selling cakes and drinks.

Children from local schools have taken part in a competition to design the front cover of a book of congratulations to the Queen.

The bar will be open for chilled beer or soft drinks and there will be face painting and games for the children. It runs until 4pm and in the evening, from 7.30pm, Merchistoun Hall will host a 1950s jive night with special guests Now That’s Jive DJs Major 5 x 5 and Little Miss Wiggles.

Tickets cost £5 on the door. To get involved call Horndean Parish Council on (023) 9259 7766 or Merchistoun Hall on (023) 9259 7114.
