THE PUB that kick started The News’ Love your Local campaign is set to close in the new year.

The Crow’s Nest, in Hazleton Way, Waterlooville, has been the subject of ongoing battles to save it from the bulldozers and turned into housing.

Customers thought they had won when Havant Borough Council turned down an application on the grounds the owner of the building, Acres Developments, had not tried hard enough to sell it as a going concern.

But despite the best efforts of regulars a further application was submitted to change the use of the building to a childrens nursery.

And councillors on Havant’s planning committee passed it.

The pub will close early in the new year.
