THE new Lord Mayor of Portsmouth is to host the launch of a new community garden at a summer fair next month.

Cllr David Fuller will unveil the new garden at Eastney Community Centre on Sunday, July 3 at 10.30am.

Ann Eves, a support worker at the community centre said: ‘We’re delighted that the new Lord Mayor is coming along to the centre to launch our community garden and open our summer fair.’

After gaining a Portsmouth Together Love Your Street award of £500, the garden has a new memorial bench for Vernon Bye, a long-standing councillor, as well as new picnic tables and flowerbeds.

Members of the local Royal Marine Cadet Corps will welcome Cllr Fuller before he opens the summer fair at 11am.

Entrance to the fair costs 20p with children’s games, face painting, tombolas, cake sales and more for families to enjoy.
