A MAN and dog had a lucky escape when the car they were in exploded into flames in Portsmouth.

The car caught fire on the Eastern Road near Morrisons at around 7pm this evening.

The man and his dog had evacuated the vehicle by the time emergency crews arrived at the scene.

The road was closed off heading towards Portsmouth by police.

Southsea fire crews attended the blaze, using two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to put out the ‘well alight’ car.
