PUPILS at a private school were in shock yesterday after a body was found just yards from the school entrance.

A member of the public found the body of a man, believed to be in his 30s, on a pathway on Ramshill, Petersfield at 6.30am.

Police immediately cordoned off the area which is next to Churcher’s College to try to establish how the man died.

The cordon was lifted at 10.30am and the public were allowed to use the footpath which is a popular route for pupils on their way to school and commuters on their way to Petersfield train station from the nearby housing estate.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire police said: ‘The area was cordoned off this morning so officers could investigate the circumstances of this death. This cordon has since been lifted.

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time’

A spokeswoman for Churcher’s College confirmed the body was not found on school land.
