THE Mary Rose Museum has reached its £35,000 appeal target to open a new museum.

Today the Mary Rose Appeal announced the target was hit after nearly 140 donations were made in just over two weeks on its JustGiving web page.

It means the new £36m museum for Henry VIII’s flagship can be opened in late spring.

The appeal announced on the web page: ‘As one chapter in the Mary Rose’s long history comes to an end another begins with the opening of the new museum.’

In January, the trust urged people to donate as little as £1 on the website, as reported in The News.

The opening of the new museum will mark 31 years since the famous hull was raised from the Solent.

The museum will allow many recovered artefacts to go on display for the first time.
