THE new mayoress of Fareham will be hoping to keep her head out of the clouds when she takes part in a charity abseil this weekend.

Carole Steadman will be taking the plunge 320ft down the side of Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower at 5pm on Sunday, June 3.

But her husband, the mayor of Fareham, Cllr Dennis Steadman will be keeping his feet firmly on the ground as he supports her at Gunwharf Quays.

Mrs Steadman said: ‘Dennis has got no head for heights so there’s no way I could get him to do this.

‘But I’m looking forward to it, so please help us support a wonderful cause.’

Cllr Steadman’s charity for the year is Wessex Heartbeat and he aims to raise enough to transform a day room in the cardiac unit at Southampton General Hospital, the regional cardiac centre.

To support them go to or send a cheque, made payable to The Mayor of Fareham’s Charity, 2012/13, to The Mayor’s Parlour, Fareham Borough Council, Civic Offices, Civic Way, Fareham, PO16 7AZ.
