VISITORS basked in the sun at during a ‘memory day’.

Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Frank Jonas and his wife, Lay Mayoress Pat Jonas showed their support for the Portsmouth Memory Day roadshow held at Gunwharf Quays yesterday.

The event was organised by charity the Alzheimer’s Society as part of Dementia Awareness Week.

Those who took part had the opportunity to fined out more about support for carers and legal and financial advice.

There was also the chance to try out a zumba fitness session and find out more about support available locally to anyone who has concerns about their memory or someone else’s.

Cllr Jonas said: ‘The reason for supporting the Alzheimer’s Society is it’s one of the problems that’s touched our family, with my mother suffering from dementia before she died.

‘It seems that dementia has touched many families. The help that’s available is quite amazing – from the assessment people at St Mary’s right the way through, there are people there to give help.’
