SHOPPERS at Gunwharf Quays will enjoy free musical performances from some of the best military musicians in the world.

Members of Portsmouth’s Royal Marines School of Music will give hour-long marching displays from 1.30pm on Friday and Saturday at the shopping centre.

There will also be a chance to meet the band members after they play a rousing finale at the base of the Spinnaker Tower.

The event is promoting the School of Music Band’s major concert at Portsmouth Guildhall on August 9.

Major Jason Burcham, the director of music training at the Royal Marines School of Music, said: ‘The concert at the Guildhall is exactly what you’d expect from the Royal Marines Band Service – the world’s best music played by the best military musicians.’

The event on August 9 starts at 2pm and ends with a spectacular Beating Retreat marching ceremony in Guildhall Square.

Tickets for the Guildhall concert and beating the retreat are available from the box office on (023) 9282 4355, or at
