MOCK the Week and Outnumbered star Hugh Dennis will strap on his trainers to take part in the 25th Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth later this year.

He is set to join 25,000 people at the world’s leading 10-mile running event, which returns to the city on Sunday, October 26.

Hugh, who lives near Chichester, last took part in the event in 2011. This year he will lead a team of runners raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity he has supported for many years after being inspired by his own Outnumbered storyline.

He said: ‘There are 800,000 people who live in the UK with dementia, and the condition not only affects individuals, but has an impact on family and friends caring for their loved ones.

‘I am extremely supportive of the important work that the Alzheimer’s Society does to raise awareness so that people have a greater understanding of dementia.

‘The Bupa Great South Run has a great course with a fantastic atmosphere, so I’m delighted to be able to take part again.’
