The 47-year-old who won an Oscar for his performance in Gladiator is working at a closed set at Portsmouth Naval Base.

He’s there to film scenes for the adaptation of Les Miserables where he stars as the formidable Inspector Jarvert.

Crowe is on set with fellow actor Hugh Jackman.

Today Crowe tweeted: ‘Yesterday, 18 km bike ride, 90 min walk. Today in the rain and wind on a perfectly sunny day in Portsmouth.’

As well as filming in Portsmouth, the pair have been performing in front of the cameras at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
