THE incredible true story of a prisoner of war has been turned into a musical.

The Code of Love will be performed at Station Theatre, Hayling Island, next month,

While studying maths at university Louise Helyer, 24, of Grange Crescent in Gosport, heard of the story of Donald Hill, an RAF pilot who recorded his experiences as a prisoner of war in Japan in a coded diary.

Her lecturer, Dr Philip Aston, had decoded the Second World War pilot’s notes and Louise spotted his work online.

It had been written up by Andro Linklater, who died last year. Louise adapted the book into a music and it was a hit.

The show takes place September 3 to 6 and tickets are £10.
