A NATIONAL award scheme has recognised the best loos in and around our area.

The Loo of the Year Awards gave platinum ratings – the best that it can award – to the toilets at Asda supermarket in Fareham and the toilets at Southampton Airport.

Mike Bone, managing director of the Loo of the Year Awards, said: ‘We inspected over 5,000 toilets throughout the UK and were impressed by the high level of facilities and the high standards of cleaning and maintenance at Southampton Airport and Asda.’

Asda supermarkets in Havant and Portsmouth, Wetherspoon pubs The Denmead Queen in Waterlooville and The Trafalgar in Portsmouth and The Red Lion pub in Fareham all received gold awards.

Silver awards went to the Wetherspoon pubs The White Swan in Portsmouth, The Crown in Fareham and The Lord Palmerston in Southsea.

Spice Island in Old Portsmouth also received a silver award.
