THE NEW Bishop of Chichester will be enthroned on Sunday.
Dr Martin Warner will be inaugurated in a ceremony at Chichester Cathedral from 3.30pm.
He was appointed in May after the outgoing bishop, John Hind, retired in April after 11 years in the role
The 53-year-old keen cyclist, described as a traditionalist, said: ‘It is a daunting and exciting challenge to be asked to serve the people of Sussex as the next Bishop of Chichester. I look forward very much to learning more about the mission in which we shall be engaging together.’
In September he spoke out saying lessons must be learned from the Archbishop of Canterbury’s damning report on child abuse within the Chichester Diocese, saying: ‘We have much to learn from all that has happened and must be humble in doing so, accepting our failures, responding with honesty and penitence, and demonstrating proper and appropriate engagement with those who are the victims of criminal and sub-Christian behaviour.’
