FITNESS New Year’s resolutions will be challenged with a new race.

The inaugural Gosport Golden Mile will take place this summer and organisers are urging local schools and individuals to take part in the fun.

There will be cash prizes and a trophy for winners.

The race will take place on June 2, with a 5km promenade race around Stokes Bay afterwards.

Nick Carter, co-owner of Absolute Running in Stoke Road, Gosport, said: ‘It’s a lot less daunting than a 10km or 10 mile race – although it’s the ideal stepping stone to these distances if you get bitten by the running bug.’

Entry costs £6 or £4 for club runners. Call Nick on 07445 203925 for more information.
