SWIMMER Anna Wardley has begun her third round-the-island swim.

The 37-year-old from Gosport is due to swim 41 miles around Jersey today and started at 7am.

She is due to finish the 12 to 13-hour swim at around 8pm.

She will brave waters at around 13.6C but will have the tide on her side, pushing her along at up to seven knots.

Anna is raising cash for charity by swimming round five islands – this is the third.

Before setting off she told The News: ‘The big challenge is going to be the water temperature, because it’s pretty cold, a couple of degrees colder than it normally is at this time of year.

‘There are sunshine forecasts for [today], which makes a big difference to swim when the sun’s out and on your back.

‘Even when the water’s really cold I think it makes a big difference psychologically.’

She will end her longest swim yet where she started, at the Elizabeth Castle Breakwater, off Saint Helier, Jersey.

As reported, she has already swum around both Dragonera, off the coast of Mallorca, and Portsea last year.
