WITH this weekend marking a year to the start of the London 2012 Olympics, the public is being invited to join a series of celebrations.

Fareham’s Tour of the Town weekend will see local past Olympians as well as future hopefuls join in the fun.

The free event from 11am to 2pm on both days has been organised by Fareham Borough Council with Fareham Leisure Centre, Ferneham Hall, Westbury Manor Museum, and Fareham and Crofton Cricket Club.

Each venue will host Olympic-themed activities, games and sport taster sessions.

Anyone who collects a stamp from all four venues will be entered into a free prize draw with prizes including tickets for Fratton Park to see Pompey, leisure centre memberships, panto tickets and swimming passes.

Councillor Connie Hockley, who is in charge of leisure matters, said: ‘I am delighted that we’re being joined by Olympic sporting personalities, past and present, together with many other sportsmen and women.

‘Our Tour of the Town weekend is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to join together in celebrating the start of the Olympic count down, while getting some fresh air and having fun.’
