MORE than one million pets in animal shelters across the country have benefitted from a festive fundraising campaign.

The Santa Paws appeal asked shoppers at Pets at Home stores – including the Portsmouth, Fareham and Havant stores – to donate 50p to pay for a pet’s dinner.

In total more than one million dinners were bought and given to charity Support Adoption For Pets.

Amy Wilson, from the charity, said: ‘We’re delighted to already hit one million Christmas dinners. The public have been overwhelmingly generous and this money will go to help over 350 animal rehoming centres across the UK.’
