TWO amateur photographers from Gosport have won their categories in a national photography competition.
Chloe Needham, 14, and Hayley Meaker are two of the winners of the Love Living In competition, which attracted entries from more than 500 people with a passion for the place that they call home.
Chloe’s photograph of Lee-On-The-Solent was picked by the judges as the winner of the Young Photographer category, whilst Hayley’s atmospheric shot of Portsmouth Harbour and the Spinnaker Tower triumphed in the Cherished Landmarks category.
Both winners received £250 for their accomplishments.
Other categories in the competition, which was organised by estate agents Leaders, included Hidden Gems, Family Fun and Natural Beauty.
Chloe said: ‘“I love living in Lee-On-The-Solent because the beaches are lovely. I was walking my dog, Pepper, at the beach and she was jumping around in the waves and looked so happy. She created the perfect silhouette with the sun setting behind her.
‘I feel really grateful to have won and I will definitely continue with photography. My art teacher was very pleased.’
Hayley Meaker added: ‘It’s amazing to have won. I’m so pleased the judges liked my photo.
‘I’ve taken many pictures of the Spinnaker Tower before, but whilst on the ferry crossing from Gosport I loved how dramatic the clouds looked and how dominant the tower appears on the landscape.’
Helen Smith, lettings manager at Leaders in Gosport, said: ‘Finding the ultimate view is not easy. But our categories were designed to offer something for everybody, whether they live in a concrete jungle or a picturesque rural spot.
‘Chloe’s photo of Lee-On-The-Solent was the best photo taken by any young person, while Hayley’s snap of the harbour captured the imagination of our judges.’
