A WEEKEND of cultural and sporting events has been organised to mark the countdown to the 2012 Olympics.

With just one year to go to the games, Havant Borough Council has prepared a programme of activities for residents, giving them the opportunity to try something new. Most of the activities are free.

It’s happening this weekend and begins on Saturday with an It’s a Knockout-style competition at the Acorn Centre, Wecock from 1pm.

On Sunday, at Havant Leisure Centre from noon to 5pm, sports clubs across the borough will help people try out different sports from archery to trampolining, judo, boxing, fencing, weight lifting, gymnastics and rowing.

For those who are more into arts, visitors can make medals and flags in art workshops in the small hall with Making Space.
