THERE wasn’t a swimming costume in sight as families gathered at Hilsea Lido.

But organisers are hoping vital funds from a charity concert will pave the way for the re-opening of the historic baths next year.

The event on Saturday saw local bands perform, including The Morphic Fields, Unwritten Rule, Skaraman and Thinking For Tuesday.

Jason Merrett, 42, and his 10-year-old daughter Eden enjoyed the music and barbecue.

Mr Merrett is a volunteer for the charity Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust, which plans to restore the attraction and re-open it.

‘I have always been a big fan of the Lido,’ said Mr Merrett, of Halstead Road, Wymering.

‘I would do anything to see it re-opened.

‘I think kids are really missing out on the opportunity to swim properly.

‘It was nice just walking round the place. I was reminiscing back to when I was a child.

‘I was born in 69 and I was down there in 1970!

‘I would love to see it back in its 70s heyday.’
