BEER-LOVERS raised a glass or two of their favourite brew at the first two sessions of a beer festival yesterday.

The Campaign for Real Ale’s Portsmouth Beerex festival has started at the University of Portsmouth Students’ Union and will conclude today with an early call from 11.30am to 4pm and a later session from 6.30pm to 11pm.

Camra member Martyn Constable said the first session drew about 150 people, about twice last year’s number. Martyn said he was ‘more than happy’ with the turnout so far.

He said: ‘It’s going very well.

‘We’ve got lots of new people along and everyone’s enjoying the atmosphere.’

There are more than 100 drinks at the festival including 65 real ales, 20 ciders and a selection of craft beers and English wine.
