Portsmouth choir to sing in front of the Queen at Remembrance show

SINGERS from Portsmouth Cathedral Choirs will take centre stage at a Remembrance show at the Royal Albert Hall in front of the Queen this week.

They will be among several choirs performing at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance in London tomorrow.

The event is in memory of all those who have been killed in war.

Presented by BBC News’ Huw Edwards, highlights of the show will be broadcast on BBC One at 9pm tomorrow.

This is the first time any choirs from Portsmouth Cathedral have been invited. They will share the stage with the likes of Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Laura Mvula and Birdy as well as the Royal Marines Band.

Dr David Price, director of music at Portsmouth Cathedral, said: ‘It is very special for us.

‘Our city of Portsmouth has strong links to the Royal Navy and both our choirs and congregation includes many families who currently serve or have served in our country’s armed forces.’

This year’s annual show will also mark the centenaries of the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Jutland.
