Portsmouth pair set to trek the Grand Canyon to fund research into Alzheimer's

TWO women from a care company in Portchester are bracing themselves to trek the Grand Canyon for charity.

Jo Barry, 37, and Natalie Dobson, 29, will be jetting off to the American landmark on Tuesday to raise cash for Alzheimer’s Society.

The pair, who both work at Platinum Care Services, have so far raised almost £1,200 but hope to hit their goal of £3,000 soon.

Mum-of-two Natalie, of Addison Road, Southsea, said they had funded the trip themselves so all the money will go to charity.

She added: ‘Our work sees us helping families across the city coping with Alzheimer’s.

‘It’s a devastating condition for families to go through. So we just want to help.’

The pair have been training for 12 weeks.

Over the course of six days they will be trekking a total of 56 miles.

Jo, of Arundel Road, Chichester, added she was really excited about tackling the trek.

The mum-of-three said: ‘We couldn’t think of a better way to get fit for the New Year and to do something that pushes us out of our comfort zone whilst raising vital funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.’
