Portsmouth to pay tribute to those who died at sea

A SERVICE will be held to remember those who have lost their lives at sea.

The ceremony, which also commemorates the life of Admiral Lord Nelson, will take place at 10.30am on Sunday, at the Anglican Cathedral in Old Portsmouth.

The morning will be attended by mayors from Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Havant, and the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire Nigel Atkinson.

The service will be led by the Dean of Portsmouth, the Very Rev David Brindley.

Senior officers from the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines will attend the morning, where a collection will be taken for the charity Seafarers UK and the cathedral.

Afterwards, attendees will process to the statue of Nelson in Grand Parade, Old Portsmouth, where the Lord-Lieutenant will lead the laying of wreaths, which will include one to comemorate those lost at sea.

Residents are invited to join the service and the procession.
