Rob, who has taken on the lockdown challenges to raise money to support the coronavirus fight, had planned to cover 40 miles but had to cut short the distance due to ‘gruelling conditions’.

The store manager was joined by colleague, Darryl Marsh, who managed to complete 10 miles of the rooftop course before having to withdraw with heat exhaustion.

Rob said: ‘In the end I was pleased to complete the marathon distance as it was extremely hot and at one point I didn’t think I would make 20 miles.’

Despite not completing the 40 miles, Rob said all those who had sponsored the event had paid their money as well as receiving ‘many generous donations into collection buckets’ from customers visiting the store on the day.

Rob said: ‘Having passed the initial £500 target I’m hopeful that we can make at least £700. Hopefully the money can be used to support the patients and staff fighting Covid-19.

‘I am classed as a key worker but I wanted to do something extra for those key workers in the NHS. They really are putting their lives in danger and saving people’s lives.’
