Portsmouth youngsters praised for synagogue's garden makeover

AN UNKEMPT garden at a city worship site has been given a new lease of life by a team of volunteers.

Young people from the National Citizens Service (NCS) rallied to tidy up the open space at Portsmouth and Southsea Synagogue, which had become overgrown.

The group spent a week ripping out weeds and trimming hedges, braving torrential rain and warm weather to finish the makeover.

Volunteers have since been praised for their efforts by the Jewish community and Portsmouth South MP, Stephen Morgan.

Mr Morgan, who arranged for the NCS team to clear the site up, said he '˜couldn't be prouder' of the team for their '˜storming effort', adding: '˜This project showed our city and its young people at their very best.'
