THE Royal Marines Association Concert Band will host a concert with the backdrop of HMS Victory on Saturday August 25.

It will be the first time the band will host a concert at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and they are promising a ‘Last Night at the Proms’ theme with a wide spectrum of music.

There will be popular marches and big band, theatre and film music classics, and a traditional Royal Marines finale featuring The Trafalgar Drummers. The soprano Margaret Threadgold will sing.

The event is the finale of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard’s ‘Dockyard at Dusk’ season which has seen various plays performed in the Victory area in front of Nelson’s ship.

The concert will be conducted by David Cole, who joined the Royal Marines Band Service in 1967 and retired as a Captain and director of music after 32 years’ service.

In 1992, he was appointed director of music aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia.

The two-hour concert is at 7.30pm. Gates open at 6.30pm.

Tickets cost £15 or £10 for concessions. They can be bought at or by phoning 0844 880 5406.
