SCHOOL pupil David Jones was put through his paces in a grilling interview by Havant MP David Willetts.
The meeting was held as part of mock interview day at Crookhorn College of Technology, Waterlooville, which offers all of its 160 Year 11 pupils one-on-one interviews with industry professionals and employers.
David, 15, of Stirling Avenue, Waterlooville, talked about his aspirations of gaining a degree and becoming a software engineer during his interview with the Havant MP.
And he was advised by Mr Willetts to organise work experience placements in the industry in a bid to develop his skills and boost his CV.
He said: ‘I was quite nervous beforehand but as soon as we started talking it was fine.
‘I tried to be professional and take in everything he was telling me.
‘It was very helpful. He gave me some good feedback and I’m definitely going to try to get some work experience.’
David and his fellow students wore smart, professional work clothes to the interviews – each of which was arranged according to their skills and interests.
One of the event organisers Sally Duncan, personal development learning manager for the college, said: ‘We wanted to give students a chance to practice their interview skills before going off for real interviews for jobs and college because they can be really nerve-racking.’
