A COMPETITION to name Marwell Zoo’s little Amur leopard cub has come to a close.

And the winning name to be picked was Kanika.

As reported, Kanika who is now 13 weeks old, belongs to the world’s most threatened big cat group, with fewer than 35 remaining in their natural range in the Russian Far-East.

Three names went to the public vote – Kanika, Rayna and Odessa.

The zoo received 1,767 votes. Kanika received 1,053 votes, Rayna received 565 votes and Odessa received 149 votes.
