IMPROVEMENTS to a key route into Gosport town centre are taking shape as the scheme reaches the halfway mark.

Hampshire County Council has closed off Haslar Bridge to vehicles as it works on the columns, cross beams and other sections.

The public have been absolutely brilliant.

Cllr Peter Edgar

The £1.4m project started in June and is expected to go on for 18 weeks.

Scaffolding has been put up as the work continues.

Gosport councillor Peter Edgar has commended people in the town for putting up with the road closure.

He said: ‘The public have been absolutely brilliant. I haven’t had a single complaint and I think they recognise how important it is to keep the bridge up to a suitable standard.’
