Royal backing for Portsea club

A MARITIME club in Portsmouth has received royal backing.

The Royal Maritime Club in Queen Street, Portsea, has announced that His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has extended his patronage of the club to 2021.

A spokesman said: ‘The patronage continues the strong links with the royal family and visits over many years.’

The club was founded in 1851 and granted the Royal prefix by Queen Victoria in 1855, following a visit by Prince Albert.
