THE RSPCA Solent Branch has issued a stark warning about the danger posed to wildlife by discarded litter after a herring gull was found with its legs tied together with fishing net.

The herring gull was found by a resident in Purbrook.

The bird was taken to the vet at the Stubbington Ark where the tangled net was taken off the gull’s legs.

Vanessa Eden, head of fundraising, said: ‘This is another story which highlights the dangers posed to wildlife by carelessly discarded litter. Netting, fishing line and hooks are especially dangerous hazards. We would urge people to dispose of any waste responsibly.’
