CHILDREN across Portsmouth have long dreamed of becoming just like local pop heroes Same Difference.

And now these dreams could become a reality as the X-Factor stars launch their own Pop Academy.

Sean and Sarah Smith from Widley found fame after coming third in the TV talent show in 2007.

The brother and sister singing duo joined Simon Cowell’s Syco record label and released two albums – Pop and The Rest Is History.

Now they are giving local children the benefit of their pop experience in a new stage school, set to launch at the Admiral Lord Nelson School in Portsmouth in October half-term.

The week-long Pop Academy will offer wannabe pop stars aged between seven and 12 the chance to learn, improve and perform some of their favourite songs in fun and friendly workshops.

Sean, 25, and 22-year-old Sarah have designed an up-to-date course that includes vocals and choreography for some of today’s biggest chart hits.

During the week, pupils will work on the vocals, choreography and performance skills needed to be a pop star, along with handy tips for auditioning and confidence-building.

Their time at the Pop Academy will culminate in a professional stage show at the school.

Sean said: ‘We’ve spent the past four years having the most amazing time performing around the country and we can’t wait to pass on some of the experience that we’ve gained.

‘When we were children, we loved to perform, but it was very rare for us to be able to do this on a professional stage with the lights flashing and the music booming. So to have the opportunity to give the next generation that chance is brilliant. Hopefully we’ll find some stars of the future.’

Sarah added: ‘We’re also hoping that we have some children come to the school that have never been involved in singing or dancing before, so we can work on their raw talent.’

The first Pop Academy runs from October 24-29 at Admiral Lord Nelson School. The finale will be a professionally-staged performance for families on the last evening.

The academy is aimed at children aged seven-12, with daily sessions all taught by Same Difference (AKA Sean and Sarah Smith) and carefully-selected professionals from 9am to 1pm or 2pm to 6pm.

Course fees start at £150, which includes a T-shirt and one ticket to the end-of-week show. Additional tickets cost £8 each.

Places can be secured with a £50 deposit and there is a £10 discount for places paid for in full.
