CHILDREN’s entertainer Scott Thatcher has won the first of a new award set up in memory of his friend.
Known as Silly Scott, he scooped the Mystic Matt’s Children’s Entertainer of the Year, beating a number of other contestants to the prize.
The title of the national award is named after fellow entertainer Matthew Tasker, who died from pulmonary hypertension in July last year, aged 34.
He was a close friend of Scott and part of a double act with his wife – Mystic Matt and Twizzy.
Scott, from Hilsea, was chosen as the winner by a large group of children who favoured his act over the others.
He said: ‘I feel very honoured to have won the award.
‘Matty was a great friend to us all and it is fitting to have an award set up in his memory.
‘He was a great guy and was not only popular with us but with the kids and their parents. No-one had a bad work about him.
‘We never had a set award for a kids’ entertainer so it is good for people like myself to have something to strive for and look forward to.
‘When I am booked in for jobs, the children always seem to enjoy the act so it is nice that I have something to show for it.
‘I got given a very nice trophy with my name on which I get to keep.
‘A bigger shield or cup will also be made that I can keep for a year, then will go to the next winner.’
For the competition, Scott and the other entrants performed in front of a large crowd of children.
At the end of all the acts, the youngsters got to vote for their favourite by putting a sticker on a board.
Scott added: ‘I think it is great that children picked the winner because they’re our main audience.
‘I do weddings and things like that but the award was for the best children’s entertainer so it was great they were the judges.’
Scott is part of the Portsmouth and District Magic Circle.
He is up for a number of other awards this year, including the regional finals of the Netmums Party Entertainer Awards.
