A CHARITY has invited children to enter an art competition with the theme of Sea Soldiers.

The Portsmouth-based Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund has launched the competition to mark this year’s 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines.

Children up to the age of 16 can submit a drawing, painting, collage or cartoon with the theme Sea Soldiers via the web page

The winners of age categories up-to-five, six to nine, 10 to 12 and 13 to 16 will receive a prize and their works will go on show in Portsmouth during Seafarers Awareness Week from June 21 to June 29.

The charity’s assistant director Clare Scherer said: ‘We’ve been running this competition for four years now, and this year we wanted to do something to celebrate the anniversary of the Royal Marines.

‘The theme is Sea Soldiers because the Royal Marines are the soldiers of the sea.

‘We’ve had some absolutely brilliant entries already.’
