A CAT which was shot in the head and was being cared for at an animal shelter has had to be put down.

Staff at the Stubbington Ark, Stubbington, took the decision to put Minstrel down to spare him unnecessary suffering.

The black and white cat was found by an RSPCA inspector near Romsey on January 8 with four airgun pellets lodged in his skull.

Anyone causing suffering to an animal can face a £20,000 fine and up to six months in prison.
