A PUBLIC-SPEAKING club has rounded off a successful year with a star-studded awards evening.

Solent Speakers held their ‘Oscars’ awards night at the Lysses Hotel in Fareham on Tuesday.

Fareham’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Geoff Fazackarley, and Deputy Mayoress Tina Fazackarley, were the guests of honour at the ceremony – and both took turns in presenting the various awards for the evening.

Part of Toastmasters International, the club’s tagline is ‘Where Leaders Are Made’.

The group has helped more than four million people around the world to become more confident speakers.

Lee Werrell, vice president of PR for Solent Speakers, said: ‘To get ahead in any business or local government, you need to have certain presentation skills to sell your ideas, plans, build and increase your business.

‘We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month, and would love to show anyone what we do and how we can help you grow and improve your skills and confidence’
