‘I will miss the children terribly. I cannot believe I have been coming here for 40 years,’ she said.

‘My last day was very emotional. The children were getting tearful and I never expected them to react like that.

‘All the classes made some lovely cards, so there were mixed emotions.’

Angela, from Stubbington, added she was looking forward to going out to lunch with her friends now she is retired and also spending time with her family.

She said: ‘I loved my job for the past 40 years and the school is a happy and bright place. But it was the right time to go and I am looking forward to having spare time.’
