A CARE home celebrated the arrival of summer with the mayor and a strawberry tea.

Elderly people at Latham Lodge, Purbrook, enjoyed the tea in the gardens of the home with Councillor Ken Smith, Mayor of Havant, and wife Hazel.

They were entertained with bygone hits by singer Gary Lane.

Kay Wainwright, Latham Lodge’s deputy manager, said: ‘We wanted to do something special to welcome summer’s arrival after such a long winter.

‘We have such beautiful grounds here and the residents have been really looking forward to enjoying the gardens again.

‘The afternoon was wonderful and we are delighted that the mayor and mayoress came along to help us celebrate.’

Latham Lodge provides specialist residential and nursing care for up to 40 people over the age of 60 and is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group.

Mother and son team Helena and Paul Jeffery founded Caring Homes in 1994.
