Stubbington pair's hair for the chop to help raise cash for children's ward

CARING eight-year old Niamh Roseveare and family friend Andrea Marshall got their long locks chopped to raise money for charity.

The pair were inspired to fundraise for the children’s oncology and haematology ward at Southampton General Hospital when a seven-year-old friend called Seth was diagnosed with lymphoma in January.

Andrea, business partner of Seth’s mum Emma Rowsell, said: ‘Seeing what the Piam Brown Ward has done for Seth and his family made us want to do something. It was such a good night, and we got loads of support.’

Not only did the pair, from Stubbington, get sponsorship for the haircut, they also donated their locks to the Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Niamh’s mum Hayley said: ‘I’m so proud of their achievement and I really hope the money will help other families. The money will be given to the ward so they can offer the children things that make their stay a little bit more comfortable.’

Niamh said she hopes the money will go to people like Seth and his family. She said: ‘I’m really happy we’ve raised this much.’ Seth’s mum, Emma, has created a website with all the information of upcoming events at sethsstory.org.uk/fundraising.
