A WEEK-LONG music festival has been hailed a huge success.

Waterloooville Music Festival was staged in and around St George’s Church, in the town centre, earlier this month.

It saw concerts by jazz artists, folk groups, the police band and even opera.

Free performances were held at landmarks throughout the centre on the opening Saturday.

Organiser Jane Rice-Oxley said: ‘What a week we have had. The weather was fine for the weekend when it was crucial for the open air events.

‘Then, though the weather deteriorated, the festival did not.

‘Last Night of the Proms saw the Meridian Wind Band under the baton of Don Lloyd entertain yet another full house.

‘It was undoubtedly a really successful week and thanks go out to the numbers of people who made it work.

‘The organisers, the stewards, the performers and most of all to our enthusiastic, friendly populous audience.

‘We can’t wait for next year.’
