THERE were thousands of oohs and aahs at a firework display organised by HMS Sultan, in Gosport.

Families turned up in force last night to see the display and the lighting of a huge bonfire.

There were also fairground rides and children’s activities at the event and all the proceeds went to the running of the training centre.

Lee and Christine Lowther, of Skipper Way, Lee-on-the-Solent, went to the event with their children Rupert, five, and Harriet, three.

Christine said: ‘It was great, the kids loved it.

‘We got them some of the light-up toys and went on the bumper cars too.

‘It’s nice to have something like this that you can go to with the kids and you know what you’re going to get.

‘And it’s important for the community because it brings everyone together.’

Also at the event were best friends Sam Bowden and Zach Luff, both four.

Zach’s mum Amanda, of Magennis Close, Gosport, said: ‘The boys thought it was amazing. It’s the first time we’ve been and the fireworks were fantastic.

‘We’ll definitely be going again next year.’
