ICONS as varied as Emmeline Pankhurst and Lady Gaga were brought together as young people and councillors teamed up to tackle a youth quiz.

School pupils and youth councillors from East Hampshire District Council joined with senior counterparts in dressing as the icons of the past 100 years.

The suffragette and the outrageous popstar may have come from different eras but they took their place together at the annual event, alongside movie stars, superheroes and other colourful characters.

They tackled tough questions on topics such as general knowledge, music and democracy.

This year’s winners were Alton College, with Bohunt in second and Ditcham Park School, last year’s winners, in third.

Councillor Hilary Ayer said: ‘The results were all very close. Congratulations to Alton College on their success and well done to all the other teams.

‘Thank you to those councillors who came along some of whom were unrecognisable.’
